CMS Energy reaffirms 2026 EPS guidance toward high end, files $27B IRP, and advances NorthStar restructuring toward year-end completion
CMS Energy's Q3 2026 call is defined by three compounding positives: the September IRP filing detailing $27 billion in new clean energy, storage, and gas resources through 2040; NorthStar restructuring exceeding $500 million in funding relief with 35% of assets under signed agreement or closed; and full-year EPS guidance reaffirmed at $3.83-$3.90 with management expressing confidence toward the high end. The financial compensation mechanism (FCM) — management's ability to earn on PPAs without rate-base capital — is emerging as a structural earnings differentiator, with over 70% of 2031 FCM contracts already signed or online and a newly signed 680 MW clean energy PPA added to the IRP.
